Small Problems

It is absolutely amazing how one gesture, one word, one conversation can  be forgotten by one person, while the person on the receiving end replays every second of that one moment in their head.

A conversation focused solely on something benign: a baseball game, the weather, a new show streaming on Netflix, or something on the news. But in a moment’s time, the switch can flip, the light is on. The light is so bright that it is blindingly shining, distracting, and unnecessary. Like the thoughts in your head.

A parent complains about their child talking back to them, running too fast, snacking too much, having too much energy, exploring everything and making a mess.

What I wouldn’t give to hear her backtalk me, run around so fast that I couldn’t catch my breath, or even give me so much sass that I want to scream. I want her to make a mess with pizza sauce splattered all over her face. I want her to run all over the place, making me chase her around a park.

Your problems are small; my problems are big.

But let’s flip the switch. If I were you and you were me, would your problem still be small?
